As many are aware, Tiny made international news over a decade ago when the community rallied to protect the pure waters of the Alliston Aquifer that run beneath these lands, threatened by a garbage dump known as Site 41. It was popular sentiments so loud that the voices could not be ignored but that should never have been necessary and would not have been necessary if the township council was responsive to the needs of its citizens. Those same waters are under threat today at the recharge area under French’s Hill in Waverley. Former councils, and the current provincial government’s Ministry of the Environment have repeatedly made decisions in favour of the developers and multinational corporations that take much and provide little to our community. Erik would be a strong voice on Tiny Council to rally support on council and in the community to make sure popular sentiment is respected over moneyed interests.
Erik believes in people-centred leadership, putting the needs of Tiny’s residents first by making sure those affected by decisions are part of the decision-making process. This is the best way to respond responsibly, with fiscal sustainability, to concerns such as affordable housing; slowing down traffic; speeding up internet services; mental health and addictions outreach; as well as unseen needs that may develop over time.
